Destruction of Vischongo mini hydroelectric power plant

On July 31, 1982, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out simultaneous sabotage against public infrastructure in the province of Vilcashuamán. On that day, the Vischongo mini-hydroelectric plant and the Vilcashuamán power plant were simultaneously destroyed. This attack was part of the Shining Path's strategy of sabotaging public infrastructure, which was considered an important objective in their campaign to "beat the countryside". The destruction of these electrical installations was framed in the context of multiple violent actions that the PCP-SL carried out in 1982, including attacks on police posts, raids on towns, assassinations of authorities and assaults on farms.
