Seizure of the towns of Chuschi and Canchacancha

On July 2, 1982, detachments of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso took over the villages of Chuschi and Canchacancha in Cangallo, as part of their strategy of territorial control and expulsion of state authorities from rural areas.

On July 2, 1982, the towns of Chuschi and Canchacancha in the province of Cangallo were taken over. This action was part of a series of continuous raids on villages and harassment of authorities carried out by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso during that period. The seizure of these towns took place in the context of the Shining Path's strategy of expelling the police from rural areas and consolidating its territorial control through the creation of support bases and popular committees. This event occurred days before other important incursions such as the one in Paras on July 6 and the assault on the Huancapi prison on September 8 of the same year.
