Murder of Marciano Huancahuari in Lucanamarca

In July 1982, Marciano Huancahuari was assassinated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in Lucanamarca. He was accused of being "rich" by the Shining Path. After his assassination, 600 sheep and 100 cows of his property were distributed among the population. This event is part of the PCP-SL's strategy to "beat the countryside" by assassinating authorities and "enemies" considered to be representatives of local economic power. The assassination of Huancahuari is inscribed in the context of the expansion of Shining Path operations into the province of Huancasancos, where they not only executed authorities but also ravaged livestock and plundered the properties of the "powerful".
