First attack by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against the Vilcashuamán police post on March 31, 1982. This post would be attacked twice more that same year, on July 28 and August 22.
On March 31, 1982, subversives of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the Vilcashuamán police post for the first time. This was the first of a series of three attacks that this police post would suffer during 1982. Subsequently, the post was attacked again on July 28 and August 22 of the same year. This attack was part of a broader PCP-SL strategy of sustained assaults on the police during 1981 and 1982, pushing them back and generating a "power vacuum" in the countryside. The objective was to leave a favorable terrain to convert the communities in this area into their "support bases".
