Attack on Huancapi police post

On March 28, 1982, the PCP-SL attacked the Huancapi police post as part of a systematic offensive against police posts in the region. This attack was part of the Shining Path strategy of expelling the police from rural areas and establishing liberated zones.

On March 28, 1982, subversives of the PCP-SL attacked the police post of Huancapi in the province of Victor Fajardo. This attack was part of a series of continuous assaults on police posts that took place during 1982 in the region. The attacks included the Minas Canarias post on March 18, Vischongo on March 22, and then Vilcashuamán on March 31. This strategy of sustained attacks against the police was aimed at pushing back the forces of law and order, generating a "power vacuum" in the countryside and leaving the terrain favorable for converting the communities in the area into "support bases" for the PCP-SL.
