Attack on Vischongo police post
On March 22, 1982, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the Vischongo police post in Vilcashuamán for the second time. This attack was part of a sustained offensive against police posts in the area during 1982.
On March 22, 1982, subversives of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso again attacked the Vischongo police post in the province of Vilcashuamán. This was the second attack on this police post, as it had been previously attacked on January 10, 1981. The attack was part of a series of sustained assaults on police posts in the area during 1982, which also included the posts of Minas Canarias (March 18), Huancapi (March 28) and Vilcashuamán (March 31). This strategy of systematic attacks on the police sought to generate a 'power vacuum' in the countryside and create favorable conditions to convert the communities into support bases for the PCP-SL.
