Attack on Minas Canarias police station
PCP-Sendero Luminoso attack on the Minas Canarias police post on March 18, 1982, as part of a sustained offensive against the police in Victor Fajardo to generate a power vacuum in the countryside.
On March 18, 1982, subversives of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked the Minas Canarias police post in the province of Victor Fajardo. This attack was part of a series of sustained assaults against police posts during 1982, aimed at pushing back the police and generating a 'power vacuum' in the countryside. Attacks on police posts continued in the following months in Vischongo (March 22), Huancapi (March 28) and Vilcashuamán (March 31). This strategy allowed the PCP-SL to convert the communities in the area into its 'support bases' after the police withdrawal.
