Assault by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso on the Huamanga prison on March 2, 1982, which resulted in the escape of 247 prisoners and left 14 dead and 6 wounded.
On March 2, 1982, a detachment of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assaulted the Huamanga prison in an operation that resulted in a massive prison break. During the assault, 247 detainees managed to escape, among them numerous common prisoners as well as Shining Path militants. Fourteen people were killed and six wounded. This was one of the most significant events that occurred in the city of Huamanga during the first months of 1982, marking an escalation in the intensity of violence that would characterize that year.
