Massive escape from Huamanga CRAS

PCP-SL achieves massive escape of 304 prisoners from CRAS of Huamanga, including 70 hikers

The PCP-SL managed the escape of 304 prisoners from the CRAS of Huamanga, of which approximately 70 were Shining Path members, among them Hildebrando Pérez Huarancca and Edith Lagos. It was the largest military action undertaken by the PCP-SL up to that date and was carried out with surprising effectiveness, coordination and forcefulness. In the Los Cabitos barracks, on the outskirts of the city of Huamanga, military forces were stationed waiting to intervene with an order from Lima, which did not arrive. The response of the forces of law and order was extremely violent: members of the Republican Guard killed three detained Shining Path members who were wounded and hospitalized in the hospital of Huamanga.
