In February 1982, in the locality of Chanta, district of Umaca, four community authorities were detained and disappeared by police officers. This occurred in the context of police repression that resulted in the detention of countless peasants accused of belonging to the PCP-SL. The police arrests were accompanied by looting and theft of peasants' belongings, who were imprisoned, and in some cases even killed or disappeared.
