The first armed action of the PCP-SL in the Huallaga was an attack on the Forest Police post of Pucayacu in 1982. This attack took place near the Gocen-Nueva Esperanza area, which would have been the first PCP-SL nucleus in the Upper Huallaga. At the beginning of 1982, groups of hikers were already visiting the hamlets along the left bank of the Huallaga, gathering villagers to proclaim their politics and announcing the new rules they were to abide by.
