In 1982, the PCP-SL carried out an armed attack against the Pucayacu forest police post. This attack was one of the first armed actions of the subversive group in Alto Huallaga. The attacked post was located near the area of Gocen-Nueva Esperanza, on the right bank of the Huallaga River, north of Pucayacu near the hamlet of Consuelo. The location of the attack would not be fortuitous, as Gocen-Nueva Esperanza would have been the first PCP-SL nucleus in the Upper Huallaga.
