In 1982, the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) emerged from the merger of the Marxist-Leninist Revolutionary Socialist Party (PSR) with the Revolutionary Left Movement-El Militante (MIR-EM). This subversive group would become one of the main actors in the internal armed conflict in Peru.

The Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) emerged in 1982 from the union between the Marxist-Leninist Revolutionary Socialist Party (PSR) and the Revolutionary Left Movement-El Militante (MIR-EM). This subversive group was constituted as an armed organization that would operate mainly in the cities, especially in Metropolitan Lima. Like the PCP-SL, its presence was initially underestimated by the electoral leftist groups and the forces of law and order, who considered it a radicalized group with no greater capacity to attract people. The MRTA would become one of the two main actors in the internal armed conflict in Peru, together with the PCP-Sendero Luminoso.
