First visit of subversives to Chinches

In 1982, the first visit of subversives of the PCP-SL to Chinches, Pasco, was recorded as part of their strategy of insertion in the countryside. The militants, of Ayacucho origin, called meetings to transmit their message about the 'people's war'.

The people of Chinches remember that the first time the subversives visited them was in 1982, although there are versions from other villagers who affirm that since the mid-1980s people from outside the area visited Chinches frequently. These first visits were part of the work of insertion of the PCP-SL militants in the countryside, in accordance with the Maoist concept of 'conquering support bases'. The first PCP-SL militants were of 'Ayacucho origin', because of their way of speaking and dressing, with a disposition to listen and with a cordial tone when addressing their interlocutors. Frequently, the subversive commanders called meetings with the villagers to transmit their message, their objectives and the nature of the 'people's war' they intended to develop throughout the country.
