In 1982, a group of vigilantes along with police officers conducted raids in the 'Oreja de perro' area between 1982 and 1983, warning the villagers not to ally with the PCP-SL. During one of these raids, they entered Oronqoy, considered a support base for the PCP-SL. They gathered the entire community in the plaza and in front of them they assassinated Valerio Flores, who was identified as the leader of the subversive group in the town.
