Initial period of the conflict in Ayacucho
Initial period of the internal armed conflict centered in Ayacucho between 1982-1985, marked by the entry of the armed forces in December 1982 and an escalation of violence that reached its peak in 1984 with 19% of the total victims of the conflict.
Between 1982 and 1985, the internal armed conflict was practically confined to the department of Ayacucho. In December 1982, the Armed Forces (FFAA) were charged with leading the counter-subversive struggle, which marked the beginning of a notable escalation of violence, especially from 1983 onwards. The year 1984 corresponds to the moment of greatest intensity of the initial period, causing the highest number of deaths and disappearances reported to the CVR (19% of the total number of victims). This period was characterized by its eminently Ayacucho character and by the high peaks of violence reached in 1983 and 1984.
