Blackout in Lima

On the night of November 24, 1981, about a hundred people staged a riot in the center of Miraflores, causing material damage to the branches of the Credito and Continental banks. The group exploded several Molotov cocktails shouting 'down with the government', 'the guerrilla is the way' and 'the guerrilla against hunger'. At approximately 11:00 p.m., a blackout occurred which cut the electricity supply throughout the city. This was one of the first acts of violence by the PCP-SL that caught the attention of the city population and the political class in Lima.
