On the night of November 24, 1981, about a hundred people staged a riot in the center of Miraflores, causing material damage to the branches of the Credito and Continental banks in that district. The group exploded several Molotov cocktails shouting "down with the government", "the guerrilla is the way" and "the guerrilla against hunger". A few hours later, at approximately 11:00 p.m., there was a blackout that cut the power supply throughout the city. This event was part of the first symbolic and intimidating acts of the PCP-SL in Lima, although it did not attract significant attention from the city population or the political class at the time.
