Attempted attack on Campo Armiño Hydroelectric Power Plant
PCP-SL militants attempted to attack the Campo Armiño Hydroelectric Power Plant in Colcabamba, Tayacaja, but were repulsed by the Republican Guard guarding the facilities.
In November 1981, militants of the PCP-SL tried to attack the Campo Armiño Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in the district of Colcabamba, province of Tayacaja. The attack was repulsed by the Republican Guard that was guarding the hydroelectric plant. This sabotage attempt was part of the initial strategy of the PCP-SL to attack energy infrastructure and strategic objectives of the State. The hydroelectric plant would continue to be a recurring target of subversive attacks in the following years.
