PCP-SL attack on El Tambo police post
50 hikers assaulted police post in El Tambo killing policemen and stealing weapons
On October 11, 1981, fifty Shining Pathists assaulted the police post in the district of El Tambo, province of La Mar, Ayacucho, causing the death of members of the security forces and seizing the weapons they found in the police station. This attack was part of the II military plan for the development of the people's war of the PCP-SL that sought to escalate violent actions including attacks on isolated military targets.
