This was one of the first public military actions of the PCP-SL in the province of Chucuito, Puno. The attack was part of the PCP-SL's initial strategy to carry out violent actions in the department of Puno. A month after the looting, on September 19, dynamite firecrackers exploded at the main door of the Bishopric of the Prelature of Juli, continuing the campaign of violence in the area.
