PCP-SL militants establish themselves in Uchuraccay

PCP-SL militants led by 'Martín' established themselves in Uchuraccay and neighboring communities between July and August 1981, seeking to form support bases. This presence did not respect the autonomy or the culture of the local peasants.

During the months of July and August 1981, militants of the Communist Party of Peru-Sendero Luminoso led by an individual known as 'Martin' established themselves in Uchuraccay and other neighboring communities. The objective of this presence was to form support bases for the PCP-SL in the area. This was one of the first actions of the PCP-SL to establish a presence in the peasant communities of the Huanta highlands. However, the Communist Party of Peru-Sendero Luminoso did not respect the autonomy, forms of organization and culture of the Uchuraccay peasants, which later triggered an escalation of violence.
