On January 19, 1981, an explosive charge went off in the police station located in the Santa Ana neighborhood of Huancavelica. This attack was part of the first actions of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the department of Huancavelica, which had begun its operations in July 1980 with the demolition of a high tension tower. In a few months, the subversives went from sabotage with dynamite against the electric power transmission system to assaults on police posts and public buildings. This attack on the Santa Ana police station was part of the initial strategy of harassment of the forces of law and order and destruction of state infrastructure.
