MIR-EM retakes leadership of the Defense Front of Coronel Portillo
In 1981, the MIR-EM regained control of the Defense Front of Coronel Portillo, which it had lost the previous year. This retaking allowed the MIR-EM to prepare the way for the popular insurrection from the social bases of the farmers.
In 1981, the MIR-EM (Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria - El Militante) managed to regain the leadership of the Defense Front of the province of Coronel Portillo, after having lost it in 1980 to engineer Castro Vera of the College of Engineers. This recovery of control of the Defense Front was strategically important for the MIR-EM. The control of this organization allowed the MIR-EM to prepare the way for the popular insurrection from the farmers' own social bases. The Defense Front had been formed between 1977 and 1978 by an Organizing Committee whose members were basically militants of the MIR-EM.
