Arrival of unknown persons to Uchuraccay
In mid-1981, unknown persons arrived in Uchuraccay who presented themselves as businessmen or job seekers, but were in fact members of the Shining Path PCP seeking to establish support bases in the community.
In mid-1981, some strangers arrived in Uchuraccay and introduced themselves to the villagers as businessmen or looking for work. The strangers visited the school and managed to befriend some families, gaining their support and becoming compadres by lifting newborns off the ground with several villagers. In this way, they managed to convince some to join the people's war, holding meetings in the community school. According to Shining Path documents, since 1981 Uchuraccay was one of the support bases where the Shining Path PCP had managed to form local force platoons and guerrilla units.
