On December 26, 1980, several dogs dawned hanging from electric lighting poles in downtown Lima. The dogs carried signs with the inscription 'Teng Siao Ping', in reference to the Chinese leader. This symbolic act was part of the first propaganda actions of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the Peruvian capital. The event took place a few months after the beginning of the armed struggle declared by the subversive group in May 1980.
