PCP-SL raid on Ayzarca farm and assassination of Benigno Medina
First fatality of the conflict: murder of landowner Benigno Medina and his butler in PCP-SL assault on Ayzarca hacienda
A group of 200 to 300 people were gathered in Pujas to assault the Ayzarca hacienda during the night. The PCP-SL cruelly murdered Benigno Medina, owner of the hacienda, and his butler, Mr. Morales. His wife Maria Zea and his son managed to escape. This event marked the beginning of the internal armed conflict in the region, with Medina being the first fatality. The next day police from Vilcashuamán arrived but no one was arrested.
