On October 23, 1980, a mob of people set fire to the municipality of Comas under a hail of Molotov cocktails. This attack was one of the first acts of sabotage and intimidation by subversive groups in the Northern Zone of Metropolitan Lima. The fire occurred just four months after the burning of the municipality of San Martin de Porres in June 1980, which marked the beginning of subversive actions in the area. Subsequently, the municipal buildings of Comas and Rimac were attacked again in 1983.
