On August 17, 1980, PCP-SL (Shining Path) militants set fire to the Santa Rosa de Sacco District Council in the province of Yauli. This attack was part of the first violent actions of the PCP-SL in the central region of Peru, specifically in the department of Junin. The burning of the municipal building was one of the initial actions of sabotage against state institutions in the area. This event occurred just three months after the official start of the "people's war" declared by the Shining Path on May 17, 1980.
