On May 18, 1980, the PCP-SL carried out an attack with dynamite against the premises of the Agrarian Bank in Cajabamba. This was the first violent action of the PCP-SL registered in the province of Cajabamba. The attack consisted of the explosion of a dynamite firecracker in the bank's facilities. This event marks the beginning of the Shining Path's subversive actions in this northern area of the department of Cajamarca.
