An 8-year-old girl witnessed her parents and older siblings being beaten by the Shining Path. The children began to scream but out of fear they had to stay quiet. Many urinated and relieved themselves on their clothes. Despite the girl's pleas for mercy and compassion, they killed her mother and another lady, and her young son's throat was cut. The girl tried to lift her mother to heal her but blood began to gush from her stomach. She brought a blanket to cover her thinking she might survive, but she died anyway. The girl nursed her mother through three days of agony.
