Sinchis Atrocities in Ayacucho
In September 1982, the Sinchis, a special unit of the Peruvian police, arrived in Chalcos, Ayacucho, presenting themselves as protectors. Initially engaging with the community through activities like sports, their behavior soon turned violent. They falsely accused local teachers of terrorism, detained, and brutally killed them. This incident contributed to the Sinchis' reputation for committing human rights abuses, including torture and arbitrary detentions, during the internal conflict in Peru.
En septiembre de 1982, los Sinchis llegaron a Chalcos (Sucre, Ayacucho) presentándose como protectores, pero tras dos semanas comenzaron a emborracharse y capturaron a profesores sin pruebas, acusándolos de terroristas, para luego dispararles cuando intentaban escapar. Durante esta primera etapa, los Sinchis practicaron sistemáticamente la tortura, detenciones arbitrarias, violencia indiscriminada y violaciones sexuales contra mujeres adultas y adolescentes. La población de Ayacucho aprendió a temer a los Sinchis, viéndolos como abusivos, torturadores y asesinos, generando un imaginario terrorífico que llevó a los pobladores a tomar precauciones para evitar encuentros con estas fuerzas del orden.
