Internal armed conflict in Peru
Internal armed conflict 1980-2000, the most serious in Peruvian republican history
The internal armed conflict that Peru experienced between 1980 and 2000 is the most serious in the country's republican history. It left very deep scars on all levels of national life. The extent and intensity of the conflict accentuated the serious national imbalances, destroyed the democratic order, exacerbated poverty and deepened inequality. The conflict resulted in massive destruction of productive infrastructure and loss of social capital. The most affected departments are today among the poorest in the country.
