Law enforcement casualties in combat against subversion in 1980

In 1980, the year of the beginning of the internal armed conflict in Peru, no fatal casualties of law enforcement forces were recorded according to official data provided to the CVR. The first casualties were reported as of 1981.

During 1980, no fatal law enforcement casualties were recorded according to data provided by the armed institutes and the Ministry of the Interior to the TRC. The internal armed conflict began in 1980, but the first law enforcement casualties were reported from 1981 onwards. In the entire period 1980-2000, 1,674 members of law enforcement forces died in acts of service in emergency zones or in combat against subversive elements. The Peruvian Army was the institution with the highest number of casualties (60% of the total), followed by the police forces (34%).
