SUTEP teachers' strike lasts three and a half months

SUTEP's 3.5-month teachers' strike becomes the centerpiece of the popular movement

SUTEP begins one of the longest strikes in the history of this union: three and a half months. The government rejects the dialogue arguing an alleged politicization of this union. The Minister of the Interior declares that extremist elements linked to the Marxist-Leninist political group Patria Roja have been conducting actions of popular struggle to alter public order. The strike ends on September 29 and becomes the axis of the popular movement and a point of convergence between the different leftist political groups.
