American Convention on Human Rights ratified by Peru

The American Convention on Human Rights was ratified by Peru through the 1979 Constitution, granting it constitutional status and including the competence of the Inter-American Commission and Court of Human Rights.

The American Convention on Human Rights (OAS, 1969) was ratified by the Peruvian State through the Political Constitution of Peru of 1979, in the Sixteenth of its General and Transitory Provisions. This ratification expressly included Articles 45 and 62, referring to the competence of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Ratification gave this international instrument constitutional rank, establishing its value as a hermeneutic guideline for the interpretation of fundamental rights. This act signified Peru's formal recognition of its international human rights obligations and its acceptance of the jurisdiction of the inter-American protection bodies.
