In March 1976, the inhabitants of Ate-Vitarte mobilized in support of the workers of the FAM factory. This mobilization was part of a broader context of popular protests during the military regime, where the interests of the slum dwellers were articulated with the demands of the labor movement. The action was part of a series of mobilizations that characterized the 1970s in Lima, when various governments proved incapable of resolving problems of housing, services and employment. These types of protests contributed to reconfiguring the space for political struggle in the Peruvian capital.
