Regional Committee Convention June 14
Convention of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso '14 de Junio' Regional Committee held in Comas, where Abimael Guzman changed his pseudonym to 'Gonzalo' and the Lima Metropolitan Committee was created. The meeting marked the beginning of the reconstitution of the party and the strategy of turning Lima into a center of expansion and a sounding board.
In June 1975, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso began the reconstitution of the party, incorporating new militants and rethinking the development of the people's war in the city. When a contradiction appeared within the Regional Committee, Abimael Guzmán opted to hold the Convention of the Regional Committee 'June 14' in Lima, specifically in the district of Comas, in the San Agustín Urbanization. At this meeting, Guzman changed his pseudonym from 'Alvaro' to 'Gonzalo', marking an important moment in his leadership. During this convention, Guzmán emphasized that the work in the city should be adapted to that of the countryside in order to initiate the people's war, creating the Metropolitan Committee (known as 'Metro') in Lima, with the objective of converting the capital into a center of expansion, a sounding board for the Party and the base for all organization at the national level.
