In 1975, the Adra-Ofasa organization built an airstrip in the community of Amaquiria for social aid purposes. This airstrip was used for humanitarian assistance flights to the local population. Later, during the period of violence, this infrastructure was used by drug traffickers to transport drugs. The Peruvian Navy, upon learning of the illegal use of the airstrip, threatened the community with bombing the airstrip.
