In 1974, the National Agrarian Confederation (CNA) was founded, an organization dedicated to the organization of agrarian leagues in the context of the agrarian reform implemented during the military government of Juan Velasco Alvarado. The CNA competed with the leftist organizations that reactivated the Peasant Confederation of Peru under the hegemony of the Revolutionary Vanguard (VR). The CCP's rank and file were mainly composed of peasants who had not benefited from the agrarian reform, who used land seizures as a mechanism to obtain the allocation of land, expanding the peasant economy.
