Farm takeovers

Between 1972 and 1973, hacienda seizures took place in Peru in an attempt to obtain the allocation of land from the government, going beyond the legal channels of agrarian reform and radicalizing it.

During 1972 and 1973 there were occupations of haciendas that resulted in the expropriation of some estates. In contrast to the northern coast, these mobilizations sought to obtain from the government the allocation of land, going beyond the legal channels of agrarian reform and radicalizing it. These actions were part of the process of implementing the Agrarian Reform enacted in 1969 by the military government of General Juan Velasco Alvarado.
