Beginning of the process of reconstitution of the Communist Party

Events in Huanta convince Guzmán's sector to initiate reconstitution of the Communist Party

The events of Huanta in June 1969 were the litmus test that convinced the Red Flag sector led by Guzmán to initiate their own path towards what they called the reconstitution of the Communist Party. The Huanta struggle marks a turning point in the regional history of Ayacucho and the formation of the PCP-SL. Guzmán himself, leader of the José Carlos Mariátegui Regional Committee of Red Flag, was imprisoned due to the events of Huanta.
