Division of Red Flag and formation of Red Fatherland

Red Flag youth forms new Red Fatherland party after split

In 1968 the Red Flag Youth shows discrepancies against its national leadership asking Abimael Guzman to lead a new division. Guzmán did not accept and finally the youth and teachers' bases promoted the formation of a new party known as the PCP-Patria Roja. Previously, in 1965 the PCP-Bandera Roja had split for the first time, giving rise to the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party, and in 1967 another split took place.
