Foundation of a school in Uchuraccay

In 1959, a small school was established in Uchuraccay, supported by the farmers themselves, offering the first years of primary education.

Since 1959 the community of Uchuraccay had a small school that offered the first years of primary education. This school was mainly supported by the community's own peasants. The existence of this educational institution contradicts the image of Uchuraccay as a completely isolated and primitive community that spread after the massacre of journalists in 1983. The school represented a community effort to access formal education in a remote rural area.
