Foundation of the Independent Reformist University Front (FURI)

In 1957, the Independent Reformist University Front (FURI) was founded at the San Antonio Abad del Cuzco University, grouping independents, Social-Christians and Belaundists as the third force between the APRA and Communists. The FURI won the Student Federation between 1959 and 1961.

In 1957, independents, Social-Christians and Belaundists formed the Independent Reformist University Front (FURI) at the San Antonio Abad del Cuzco University. The FURI emerged as a third force that tercified between the apristas and communists, the latter grouped in the FUR-CUC. Between 1946 and 1958, the University Reform Front (FRU), led by the youth of the Peruvian Aprista Party, had predominated. The FURI managed to win the Student Federation between 1959 and 1961, marking a change in the correlation of university political forces.
