South Andean capitalist modernization
Period of attempts at capitalist modernization in the Andean South between 1930 and 1945, characterized by the introduction of technical improvements and the proletarianization of peasants.
The second great historical moment of the Andean South was characterized by attempts at capitalist modernization based on the introduction of technical improvements and the proletarianization of the peasants. This period is framed between two historical moments: after the expansion of the commercial houses of Arequipa and the haciendas of Cuzco and Puno (1885-1930), and before the period of growing urbanization and decadence of the large landowning property (1945-1980). During this stage, the aim was to transform the traditional productive system by implementing technological improvements and converting peasants into wage laborers.
