Construction of smelter in La Oroya

In 1922, the Cerro de Pasco Corporation built a smelter in La Oroya, making this city the most important metallurgical center in central Peru.

The city of La Oroya became the most important metallurgical center in the center of the country since the construction of the smelter in 1922 by the Cerro de Pasco Corporation. This smelter established La Oroya as a key industrial center in central Peru. In 1974, the company was nationalized and became part of Centromín Perú. The smelter processed ore from various mining units in the region, including ore transported from Cerro de Pasco.
