Primera Campaña de 'Batir el Campo' del PCP-SL
In 1982, the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) carried out the first campaign to 'beat the countryside' as part of its guerrilla warfare plan. This campaign, known as 'Batir 1', focused on fighting against gamonalismo and local power, and annihilating the living forces of reaction. The subversive actions of the PCP-SL, including attacks on Civil Guard posts, provoked a retreat of the state in several regions, allowing the PCP-SL to establish itself as a new local power.
Entre julio y octubre de 1982, el PCP-SL ejecutó su primera campaña de «batir el campo» («Batir 1») como parte de su plan de «desplegar la guerra de guerrillas», bajo la consigna de «luchar contra el gamonalismo y el poder local y aniquilar las fuerzas vivas de la reacción». Los ataques contra puestos de la Guardia Civil provocaron un repliegue general del Estado en vastas zonas del campo ayacuchano, permitiendo que el PCP-SL se perfilara como nuevo poder local. La campaña fue seguida por una segunda fase («Batir 2») iniciada en noviembre de 1982, que enfatizó las siembras y cultivos colectivos y el reparto de tierras confiscadas.
