PCP-SL's Shift to Armed Struggle
Between 1977 and 1979, the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) underwent a radical transformation, breaking away from the prevailing social and political dynamics in the country. In March 1977, the Central Committee of PCP-SL held the II National Meeting of Generated Organizations, where they decided to initiate armed struggle as part of their 'reconstitution of the party. Despite internal struggles and the broader context of social mobilizations, PCP-SL chose to remain on the sidelines of national strikes and opposed movements they deemed manipulated by 'revisionism.'
Entre 1977 y 1979, el PCP-SL llevó a cabo una ruptura radical con la dinámica social y política predominante en el país, transformándose en un proyecto fundamentalista de potencial terrorista y genocida. En marzo de 1977, el Comité Central realizó la II Reunión Nacional de Organismos Generados bajo la consigna de «Construir la Lucha Armada», considerando que la reconstitución del partido había avanzado lo suficiente para iniciar su «guerra popular». A pesar de atravesar intensas luchas internas, el PCP-SL se mantuvo al margen de las grandes movilizaciones sociales de 1976-1979, oponiéndose a movimientos que consideraba manipulados por el «revisionismo» de otros partidos de izquierda.
