Repression of the Movement for Free Education in Ayacucho and Huanta
In 1969, the movement advocating for free education in Ayacucho and Huanta faced significant repression from the government. This weakened the Frente de Defensa and associated neighborhood organizations. Despite this, the movement found refuge within the University of Huamanga, where it continued to survive and influence the political landscape throughout the 1970s.
El Frente de Defensa había logrado alta legitimidad en la segunda mitad de los años 1960, especialmente en la lucha por rentas para la Universidad de Huamanga. Sin embargo, en 1969 la represión gubernamental al movimiento por la gratuidad de la enseñanza sacudió Ayacucho y Huanta, debilitando significativamente el Frente y las organizaciones barriales asociadas. Tras esta represión, el nuevo partido se replegó dentro de la Universidad de Huamanga, donde logró sobrevivir durante la década de 1970.
